Our Approach

What we do

We leverage timely information and on-the-ground research to improve access to affordable health care for low-income people.

Why it matters

Why coverage matters

Medicaid and Medicare are pivotal in providing health care coverage to enable people to lead healthier lives, obtain needed health care services and focus on achieving greater economic stability.

Today’s challenges demand deep understanding of health policy issues facing low-income populations and dynamic approaches to problem solving as public programs continue to evolve to meet needs.

Who we work with

  • Federal, state and local government
  • Health organizations
  • Community-based organizations
  • The broader policy community, through publications, convenings, presentations, testimony and briefings
Process

How we work

  1. Understand

Improving understanding of the role of health coverage programs, identifying gaps and disparities in coverage and financing to underpin policy development.

  2. Develop

Developing strategies and solutions to advance health coverage, promote health equity and affordability of health coverage and to improve the way programs operate for low-income people.

  3. Listen and inform

Listening and learning from people’s experiences, drawing on the research evidence, and informing policy at the federal, state and local level is integral to building workable solutions.
